Notes: This book is divided into three parts. The 14 chapters (127 pgs.) are a biography of Dylan, written by Patrick Humphries, ending just before Dylan turned fifty.
The last 71 pages of the book are Notes written by John Bauldie, organized chronologically. Within each year, from 1961-1991, there are separate listings of the chronology of events in Dylan's life, concerts given, unreleased recordings, a selected bibliography, radio/tv appearances, interviews, songs written, and a discography. This is an extremely handy compilation of information, which was obviously a huge task to compile.
In the middle of the book are forty pages of full-page color plates. These also cover a wide range, including a Don't Look Back poster, concert photographs, magazines with Dylan articles, books about Dylan, film & video stills, bootleg albums, singles, portraits of Dylan, tour & concert programs, Dylan buttons, concert tickets, and Telegraph fanzines.
This book may be the best starting point for new fans, as it covers so much territory. Even the experts are likely to make some discoveries in the Notes section. And everyone will appreciate the many fine photographs that are found on nearly every
page. A highly recommended book.
